To Place an Instrument Loop

  1. Click on the Instrument Loop option in the Instrument taskbar. The Instrument Loop Tag Creation dialog displays.
  2. From the All tab, click in the Tag Number (Business Key) field for the loop. The instrument loop's Properties will display to the right of the dialog.
Note: By default, the list will contain the instrument loop and a default instrument to be placed on the loop.
  3. Define the tag number.
  4. Define a Device Type Code for the loop by selecting an option from the drop down list.
Note: By default, the Plant Area, Device Type Code, Number property defined for the loop are inherited by the instruments placed on the loop. These properties can be overridden when defining properties for the individual instruments on the loop.
  5. Finish defining the remaining properties for the loop.
  6. Next, select the Instrument listed in the All tab. The instrument's Tag Number and Properties information now display in the dialog.
  7. Define a new Tag Number and Device Type Code for the instrument.
Note: Normally, the Device Type Code options for the loop are more general indicating the type of loop it is (ex. Pressure, Temperature, etc.) When defining the individual instrument(s), a more specific Device Type Code list is available.
  8. Make any changes to the instrument properties in the fields provided and click OK.
  9. Pick a point in the drawing for the instrument. The instrument is placed in the drawing.
  10. Connect the leader line to the desired component or right-click to cancel the leader line option and end the command. The tag number is placed inside the instrument bubble.
Note: The Leader Line option can also be turned off in the Bubble Settings section of the Instrument Loop Tag Creation dialog before placing the instrument.
